Taking good care of your dirt bike’s tires is important. Good tires guarantee a good grip. Accelerating, braking and taking corners? Tires allow you to ride normally and safely. This blog covers a whole range of elements that are crucial for you. So be sure to go through it thoroughly.
Short on time? With a tire pressure of 0.8 bar you are always on the right track. With the Smart Tire Pump you can measure it in seconds.
How do you know if your perfect tire pressure is too low?
If the tire pressure of your motocross bike is too low, you will notice it immediately. Your bike steers harder and you feel much less stable in the corners. The reason? The tire deforms, which means you lose grip. Steering becomes more difficult and fuel consumption increases considerably. This deformation costs energy, your tire wears faster due to extra friction and the chance of a blowout increases considerably. This is because the temperature rises considerably.
Is too much tire pressure dangerous?
Yes, this is also dangerous. The bike will bounce and you will feel small bumps much less. The tire does not deform and this is what your tire really needs to get to the right temperature.

How do you measure your tire pressure?
Regularly checking the tire pressure of your dirt bike is necessary. Also know that when there is a lot of luggage or an extra passenger, you should adjust your tire pressure.
Checking your tire pressure is done with a pressure gauge. Be sure to use a good gauge. The ones at gas stations can have serious deviations. With the Coolado tPump X you already measure the correct pressure and this at an affordable price. The correct tire pressure can be found in the instruction booklet. Note, this is measured with cold tires. So it’s best to measure the pressure before you drive, because otherwise the pressure will increase and deviations are possible.
The best way? Inflate your tires when they are cold. If not, pump up the front tire 0.2 bar more and the rear tire 0.3 bar to be sure. After inflating, always screw the caps firmly on the valve. This valve keeps out dirt and ensures that the tire cannot deflate past the valve.
What types of tires are there?
There are many types of tires. We list the most important ones.
- Tires for sand circuits: These tires are equipped with large rubber studs. These are widely spaced for optimal filtering. The rubber blocks are spaced far apart to ensure good filtering. The fact that they are zig-zag placed ensures optimal grip in the corners.
- Tires for muddy tracks: The rubber blocks and cutouts of these tires provide optimal grip.
- Tires for heavy mud and sand circuits: The wide and self-cleaning studs allow precise steering.
- Tires for hard and rocky circuits: The overlapping studs of these tires provide better suspension.
When you choose your tires, you better know what track you’ll be riding on. If you know that, then you can choose the right tire size and tread. The right tires are crucial. Also pay attention to the rubber, the flexibility, and the tire pressure. This varies per tire. Also, take a look at your inner tube. A good one will last about 6 months, depending on how often you use your motocross bike.
When do you replace your tire?
Are the small lumps on the sides starting to split or crumble? Then it’s time to replace it. This is because you will have less grip in the corners and your tire will be less thick.
